History and Principles
So has the Democratic Party lost all credibility yet, as a viable alternative to the Republicans? In the spirit of compromise it has sold out whatever it might have once claimed as its principles. In a two-party system such clowns can thrive at the expense of the public they claim to represent and serve.

The Free Soil Party is defined by its principles, to oppose abuse of power by those claiming authority. A namesake was organized to abolish slavery before antislavery Whigs formed the Republican Party. Free Soil was more radical, including a few of the early feminists, who recognized obvious parallels between those held as conquered property by privileged white males. Laws have changed, but similar parallels persist, since too many women and nonwhites still labor at or near the bottom of corporate and government bureaucracy. Rich white males are still running the world, into the ground. This is not to say white males are the problem, but those wielding significant influence over the lives of people are largely wealthy white men with an assortment of puppets and cohorts.

Unbridled capitalism is far more conducive to centralization of economic power into bigger conglomerates than free enterprise balanced competition. This is another reason labor, environmental, and antitrust rights are so important; if corporations are allowed to trample these rights, no right is really safe. In recent times rights of the individual are treated more like charity from authorities than the rights this government was constituted to secure. The corporate charter is a public trust, so corporations are responsible to the public, not just shareholders. If a corporation knowingly violates that trust, its charter could be terminated.

Powers are granted to governments and corporations by the people, so the people have the right to restrict or redefine these powers if that trust is violated. Spin doctors can use fancy language tricks to try to dupe the public, but once the public perceives a viable alternative, the influence of the media will wane. Since opposition to the established power structure is so fragmented, from far left to right, the two parties can pretend the voters have no choice. This is a bluff; an organized informed political coalition is their worst nightmare.

Free Soil has many goals, so priorities are fluid. These are some:

Free Soil from role stereotyping.

Free Soil from genetic and chemical assault.

Free Soil from abuse of authority.

Free Soil from threats to survival, of humans and endangered species.

Free Soil from political, cultural, and religious persecution and inertia.

Free Soil from radioactive weapons and energy production.

Free Soil from cutting down old trees.

Free Soil from trusts, monopolies, and hostile takeovers.
