Porn kings Larry Flynt and Joe Francis go begging for a bailout

I might think I could not believe the gall of these men, but actually I can. Apparently they think, if corporate incompetence and malfeisance should be bailed out, they deserve a piece of the pie as well. This story is from the New York Daily News

Is the porn industry up next for a bailout? If porn titans Joe Francis and Larry Flynt have anything to do with it, it will.

Yes, ladies and gentleman, the titans of pornography are begging for a bailout.

Joe Francis, creator of the “Girl’s Gone Wild” video series, and Larry Flynt, founder of Hustler, will ask Congress for a $5 billion bailout, according to TMZ.

Why does the porn industry need a bailout? Because apparently even porn is getting smacked by the recession.

XXX DVD sales have taken a hit – about a 22% hit, according to TMZ.

“With all this economic misery and people losing all that money, sex is the farthest thing from their mind,” Flynt is quoted as saying on TMZ. “It’s time for Congress to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America.”

Francis thinks that the porn industry deserves a bailout just like the auto and financial industries got, and he said he’ll go to DC to get it, according to TMZ.

“Congress seems willing to help shore up our nation’s most important businesses; we feel we deserve the same consideration,” Francis is quoted as saying on TMZ.

Of course porn merchants think they deserve the same consideration. What would be more important to them, their business or selling cars? Since I would prefer to see them out of business, if not sued for every last red cent they ever made for the damages they have caused to women, I have no sympathy for their point of view. If Congress gives them money, it will be abundantly clear that women are taxed with virtually no representation. That may sound overblown, but the last thing Congress should do is subsidize the degradation of women. Pornography is far from harmless fun or erotica. It symbolizes the depth of contempt men have for women, gratifying the male lust to reduce women to sex objects. Women are not sex objects, and there is no legitimate business interest in feeding degrading forms of lust, which are distinct from real sexual appetites. Flynt is fond of conflating the two. He calls his enemies prudes, but his equation of sex with dirt is similar to the attitude of religiously inspired prudery. The sexual appetite of a real man is inconsistent with his brand of filth. The sexual appetite of a woman is inconsistent with being treated as a sex object, but Flynt has no interest in how women feel anyway. The more women dislike his material, the better he feels about it, since to his mind, he must be doing something right.
